Waqas Akram was elected from NA-89 Jhang-IV. Hafiz Khalid, a voter from the same constituency, challenged the election.

The petitioner alleged that Waqas Akram had fake degrees of FA and B.A and as such could not contest the election. He said that on the basis of bogus degrees, he should be declared disqualified.

ISLMABAD: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Jawed Laghari, has said firmly today that not only degrees, Sheikh Waqas Akram’s migration certificate is also fake, SAMAA reported on Thursday.

Jawed Laghrai informed in clear words today that not only educational certificates, Sheikh Waqas Akram’s migration certificate is also fake.

While rejecting allegations of Sheikh Waqas, Jawed Laghari said he should not malign me as the Inter Board Committee declared his educational documents fake and after that, the HEC declared those fake.

Out of 189 under scrutiny degrees of the former parliamentarians, 30 have been declared original, added Jawed Laghari while informing that tomorrow is last day of degrees’ confirmation and a public notice has been issued by the HEC to remind it.

Khan was elected to the Punjab Assembly in 2008 from PP-81, Jhang-IX. Iqbal Khan, an independent candidate who lost the elections at that constituency, had alleged that the MPA had a fake BA degree. The tribunal had reserved its verdict last November.
